FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Cumberland County has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The Board of Commissioners recognized the County’s Finance Department during the regular meeting held Jan. 5 in the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment.
Cumberland County was awarded for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2024. The report was judged by an impartial panel and met the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
“We have a long history of excellence in our Finance and Budget departments,” said Commissioner Marshall Faircloth. “These awards by outside agencies are testimony to the fact that our Finance and Budget staff members are professional and do the kind of job we expect.”
